New delivery date
We saw the OB yesterday and went through the results of the scan. The placenta appears to be lower than they had previously thought. This complicates the pregnancy and delivery. As a result, our OB had moved our delivery date forward to 28 February (37.5 weeks gestation). It is likely that Peanut will have to be delivered under general anesthesia (as opposed to a localized epidural). Sadly this means that Mumma K won't be awake for the birth and Mumma B may not be allowed in the delivery room to be a part of the delivery. However, we have great confidence in our OB and know that his delivery plan has the ultimate goal of keeping Peanut and Mumma K safe. On a bright note, we get to meet Peanut a week earlier than we had expected. Only 2 weeks left to wait!

Scan of Peanut at 35 weeks
Yesterday we had our final growth and well-being scan. They were checking on Peanut's size and also on the location of the placenta. Peanut continues to be healthy and falls in the high average range for size. As was expected, the placenta is still low at the cervix.
We got to see his face this time. He has some cute, chubby cheeks! In the image below, you can make out his forehead (at the top), right eye socket, his right cheek, his little chin and the bridge of his nose. The left side of his face is mostly in shadow. You can see his left hand just over the left-side of his chin/cheek (directly after this image was taken he put his hand at his mouth and covered the lower half of his face).
We had an amazing opportunity to watch him practising breathing; we saw his chest expanding and contracting and we also saw him opening and closing his mouth. They estimated that Peanut weighs 2.72 kilograms (6 pounds). At this time in the pregnancy babies usually gain about 450-500 grams per week. Considering we have another three weeks before the c-section, he could gain another 1.5 kilograms (just more than 3 pounds). That could mean a 9 pound baby at just 38 weeks gestation!

We have an appointment with the OB on Monday to discuss the results of the scan. The location of the placenta isn't much of a surprise (though he was hopeful that it would have moved). So, it's likely we'll continue with our existing emergency plan and delivery plan. We'll keep everyone up-to-date if anything changes.
We have just three (and a bit) weeks left before we get to meet him!
